Creative Window Treatment Ideas

If you’ve been shopping for window treatments lately, you know how expensive they can be. Wood blinds, silhouettes. silk draperies, etc., while functional, attractive and long lasting, can set you back a few thousand dollars. If that kind of money just isn’t readily available, or if you’d rather put your money into something else, what other alternatives exist?  LOTS!

That’s the great thing about window treatments! There are so many opportunities for creativity and low cost ideas, it would be impossible to talk about them all in one post. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, so here are some pictures I found along with some tips that I hope will get your creative juices flowing. I know one of these ideas may find its way into my home :).  Can you guess which one?

I think this window treatment idea is A-DOR-A-BLE!  The choice of fabric was brilliant too. It really plays up the ‘awning’ effect.  Simple tension rods are all that’s needed for this install.  Wish I had this kind of alcove at my house :(.

This treatment is stunning in its simplicity.  I love the red and black combo, and it’s not difficult to do even for someone not very ‘crafty’. Click on the link for how-to instructions.

Again, another brillliant choice of fabric.  The bold plaid really stands out against the brown wall, and the addition of a black ribbon and bow adds a nice feminine touch.

How cute are these!  Can’t you just picture these in a cottage style home?  The ruffles are easy to do, and they add so much style and character.

Well isn’t this just the cutest?  Fresh, modern and unique. What more could you ask for in a window treatment?  Not much if you ask me.  Just click on the ‘source’ link for how-to instructions.

A great choice of color combinations. I love the velvet bows combined with the sheer draperies. So romantic and sweet!

An old tried and true idea with this one.  If you have drapes that are too short, or if you simply want a new look, add a contrasting fabric with some trim.  Super simple!

Turning vintage tablecloths or napkins into curtains is not a new idea, but the addition of the little sparkly buttons is (at least to me!).  Just the right touch to give it a little pizazz.

Not much into sewing?  How about this next treatment?  Grab your jigsaw and cut some wood into a desired shape and cover with wallpaper!

Another ‘no-sew’ treatment.  Buy simple panels and stencil a design of your choice using fabric paint. I love the look of these stencils!

These next photos came from a scrapbook of pictures I had laying around. Although they are many years old, I think the ideas are timeless and cute!

Got a sports enthusiast at home?  This window treatment would fit the bill. If you need a little more privacy, just add curtains on the bottom half of the window.

How simple is this? Just add belts to a plain woven shade and you have a unique look.

I don’t think it can get any more rustic than this, do you?

I showed this picture in another post, but thought I would sneak it in again :).

I hope you saw some ideas you might like to use in your home!  Thanks for stopping by!
